Network abstraction and virtualisation

Zeetta’s core technology is based on NetOS®, a software controller that uses Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and virtualisation to simplify the provision of the required connectivity services across the network. NetOS® provides a single-pane-of-glass, real-time view of the whole network including all connected devices (regardless of type, technology or vendor) and the services configured on them, allowing for easy monitoring and control of the network end-to-end.

Network Orchestration with NetOS®

NetOS® supports key orchestration functions which enable the automated service provisioning for a greater network resilience and availability.

This is a departure from the conventional provisioning of services where all the affected devices had to be configured one-by-one. In contrast, NetOS operates at a service level where the network administrator simply defines the required service at a high level (intent) and NetOS® does the rest of the work by dynamically computing and configuring the devices involved in delivering of the required service.  Once deployed, a service can be modified at any time and NetOS® will automatically configure the changes, minimizing any disruption to the end users and without interrupting existing running services. These features can be further extended to support more advanced orchestration functions such as self-organising and self-healing capabilities.

Topology Aggregation – Network Splicing

At the heart of NetOS® lies the capability to merge topologies from different underlying physical network technologies, and across different vendors, to create a single aggregate topology that represents the entire network domain.  The aggregate topology includes end-hosts (e.g. smartphones, IoT sensors, IT equipment etc.) and through correlation of the network layers NetOS® can discover exactly how and where they are connected to the network.  This is monitored in real time, so if a connected device moves, this is reflected in the aggregated network topology.  We use the term ‘network splicing’ to describe the ability of NetOS® to generate the aggregate topology of the network domain it presides by combining the discrete topologies of the underlying physical or virtual sub-networks.

Multi-domain Orchestration and NetSplicer™

It is important to note that NetOS® is able to orchestrate services across different technologies and vendors that make up the underlying physical network.  Combining this capability with topology aggregation across multiple network domains allows the extension of the NetOS’ control and orchestration features across the entire network. This multi-domain orchestration enables the end-to-end provisioning of services across network operators or different administrative parts of the same operator. Our NetSplicer® software provides this function and targets initially the orchestration of services across private and public cellular networks.
